On June 8, 2026<\/b>,\u00a0the\u00a0Superior Court of Los Angeles County launched\u00a0its 2026 Judicial Internship Program,\u00a0giving\u00a0those\u00a0who are\u00a0exploring\u00a0a career in the legal field\u00a0a front row seat\u00a0to the\u00a0daily\u00a0work that supports the nation\u2019s largest trial court.<\/p>\n

With 582 judicial officers and 4,600 court employees, the Court provides interns with\u00a0ample opportunities\u00a0to experience the work that ensures the fair,\u00a0timely\u00a0and effective resolution of cases for all Los Angeles County residents.\u00a0The program is designed for\u00a0individuals\u00a0who are not currently enrolled in law school and\u00a0who\u00a0may be considering a career in law, court\u00a0operations\u00a0or a law-related field\u00a0as well as those seeking a deeper understanding of how the judicial system\u00a0operates. The\u00a0interns\u00a0gain\u00a0the\u00a0opportunity\u00a0to\u00a0observe\u00a0courtroom procedures and courthouse operations\u00a0and engage\u00a0with judicial officers, courtroom\u00a0employees and\u00a0justice partners\u00a0in discussions and presentations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Court is committed to\u00a0promoting\u00a0public understanding of\u00a0the\u00a0justice\u00a0system,\u00a0and the\u00a0Judicial Internship Program\u00a0provides\u00a0participants\u00a0with\u00a0a\u00a0unique\u00a0opportunity to\u00a0experience the administration of justice\u00a0firsthand,\u201d Presiding Judge\u00a0Sergio C. Tapia II said.\u00a0\u201cThrough\u00a0courtroom\u00a0observations and direct engagement\u00a0with judicial officers and\u00a0court\u00a0professionals,\u00a0we hope to inspire the next generation of legal\u00a0professionals\u00a0and\u00a0deepen their\u00a0understanding of the judiciary\u2019s\u00a0essential\u00a0role in ensuring equal access to justice\u00a0and upholding the rule of law.\u201d<\/p>\n

Details About the Eight-Week Program<\/b><\/p>\n

The eight-week program\u00a0provides\u00a0those\u00a0who are at least 16\u00a0years\u00a0old\u00a0daily opportunities to\u00a0observe\u00a0courtroom proceedings\u00a0in\u00a0a variety of case types, including in Civil, Criminal, Family Law, Probate and Traffic matters.\u00a0Many of the\u00a0approximately\u00a0400 interns\u00a0participating\u00a0this summer\u00a0will be based in courthouses located\u00a0in downtown Los Angeles, Monterey Park, West Covina, Van Nuys, Long Beach, Lancaster,\u00a0El Monte,\u00a0and Norwalk, while others\u00a0will\u00a0work remotely.<\/p>\n

In addition to high-school students, those in undergraduate and post-graduate programs may\u00a0participate. The program is also open to individuals who are not currently students.<\/p>\n

Ashley Fajardo Perez\u00a0participated\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0Summer Judicial Internship Program\u00a0in 2025\u00a0and\u00a0found\u00a0a nurturing\u00a0environment. \u201cIn the beginning, I was one year post university and felt uncertain if I belonged in the legal field.\u00a0In the end, I found my answer, and I would like to become\u00a0a lawyer,\u201d Fajardo Perez said.\u00a0\u201cThe program is supportive, especially for those who engage and fully immerse themselves by asking questions.\u00a0I enjoyed the opportunity to connect with people in\u00a0different stages\u00a0of their lives\u00a0\u2014 some\u00a0interns\u00a0are in university, some are looking to make a career change, and others are interested in\u00a0roles within\u00a0court operations\u00a0\u2014 this helped me navigate my own career path.\u00a0Ultimately, the program is valuable because it increases accessibility into the legal field and the court system.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Court\u2019s Judicial Internship Program has\u00a0emerged\u00a0as one of the region\u2019s most competitive opportunities for aspiring legal professionals. This year, the program received thousands of applications reflecting an extraordinary level of interest from students and young professionals eager to gain firsthand experience within one of the largest trial courts in the nation.<\/p>\n
