SACRAMENTO \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Governor Gavin Newsom, in addition to releasing\u00a0a\u00a0Fourth of July\u00a0video message<\/a>, today highlighted a proclamation issued earlier this week declaring July 4, 2026, as \u201cIndependence Day\u201d in the State of California.<\/p>\n

PROCLAMATION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each year on the Fourth of July, we celebrate the day our founders stood up to tyranny and formed a new nation founded on the principles of equality, freedom, and opportunity. Since then, Americans have fought and died to safeguard the promise of our democracy and all its ideals.<\/p>\n

From its very beginning, though, America did not guarantee equality, freedom, and opportunity to all. The struggles and triumphs of generations of Americans have continued our progress toward this goal, and the work is far from over. Relentless attacks across the country, from the highest levels, try to weaken and erase our fundamental rights and freedoms, threatening to undo decades of hard-won progress we\u2019ve made as a nation.<\/p>\n

Today and every day, California reaffirms our commitment to fully realizing our nation\u2019s founding ideals, that all are created equal, with the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We will never back down from the fight to protect freedom, we will protect the rights of all who call this country home, and we will never again allow this country and its people to be subject to a king or autocrat.<\/p>\n

Across 250 years, Americans have pursued a more perfect union \u2014generation by generation, community by community. California brings 39 million voices to the celebration \u2014 and the deeply American belief that something greater is always possible, so long as we are willing to build it.<\/p>\n

As we celebrate July Fourth, let us pay tribute to those in uniform, our civil rights leaders, advocates, and others who have made great strides to safeguard liberty and equality, and recognize the urgent work ahead of us to create a more perfect union. At this critical juncture, let us recommit to keeping the dream of this country alive for all Americans.<\/p>\n

NOW THEREFORE I, GAVIN NEWSOM<\/strong>, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim July 4, 2026, as \u201cIndependence Day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cada a\u00f1o, el cuatro de julio celebramos el d\u00eda en que los fundadores de nuestra naci\u00f3n se enfrentaron a la tiran\u00eda y dieron origen a un nuevo pa\u00eds basado en los principios de igualdad, libertad y oportunidades. Desde entonces, generaciones de estadounidenses han luchado y dado su vida para proteger la promesa de nuestra democracia y los ideales que la sostienen.<\/p>\n

Sin embargo, desde sus inicios, los Estados Unidos no garantiz\u00f3 la igualdad, la libertad ni las oportunidades para todas las personas. Gracias a las luchas y los logros de generaciones de estadounidenses, hemos seguido avanzando hacia ese ideal, pero a\u00fan queda mucho por hacer.
