Yet behind the silver medal was a remarkable comeback story that few could have predicted \u2014 a player who had never previously reached a WTT Grand Smash men\u2019s singles semifinal defeated multiple world-class opponents in just eight days and emerged as one of the tournament\u2019s biggest revelations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Alongside China\u2019s Kuai Man, Sidorenko was widely regarded by fans and media as one of the biggest \u201cdark horses\u201d of the 2026 US Smash.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For the 24-year-old Russian, the tournament represented far more than a career-best result. Now I keep changing my tickets because I\u2019m still here playing. Many expected him to end Sidorenko\u2019s Cinderella run.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Moregard quickly seized control and built a 3-1 lead, putting Sidorenko on the brink of elimination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But Sidorenko refused to surrender.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He fought back by winning the fifth and sixth games, forcing a deciding seventh game. When his coach offered him water, he did not immediately respond. Sidorenko patiently signed each item and fulfilled requests for photos. Sidorenko responded under pressure, winning a tightly contested second game 13-11 to level the match.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Matsushima then regained control, winning the third and fourth games with greater consistency and putting himself one step away from the title.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But Sidorenko refused to let the final end quickly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He captured the fifth game 11-5, bringing the crowd back into the match.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In the sixth game, Sidorenko took an early lead, but Matsushima remained calm, gradually turned the momentum around, and closed out the match 11-7 to become one of the youngest men\u2019s singles champions in WTT Grand Smash history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Although he fell short of the title, Sidorenko had already created history \u2014 becoming one of the lowest-ranked players ever to reach a WTT Grand Smash men\u2019s singles final.<\/span><\/p>\n<div contenteditable=\"false\">\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\">From a Siberian Youngster to an International Breakthrough Star<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Born on April 7, 2002, in Tomsk Oblast, Russia, Sidorenko was introduced to table tennis at a young age under the influence of his father, Vladimir Sidorenko Sr.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">His father was one of the founders of Russia\u2019s \u201cGolden Racket\u201d table tennis association in Tomsk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sidorenko showed exceptional talent during his youth career. I often dreamed that I was standing on a big stage and winning matches.
