Everyone in LA County is\u00a0encouraged to stay protected against COVID-19, influenza, and RSV as the respiratory virus season approaches<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health supports the California Department of Public Health\u2019s (CDPH)\u00a0immunization recommendations<\/a>\u00a0for the 2026\u20132027 respiratory virus season and encourages\u00a0people in\u00a0Los Angeles County to use seasonal immunization as an important tool to protect themselves, their families and the broader community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

California\u2019s recommendations, developed in collaboration with the\u00a0West Coast Health Alliance<\/a>\u00a0(WCHA), reflect a broad consensus among\u00a0professional\u00a0medical and public health organizations on the protective benefits of immunization against respiratory viruses, including COVID-19,\u00a0influenza\u00a0and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What\u00a0People in\u00a0Los Angeles County\u00a0Need to Know<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u00a0Vaccines\u00a0provide the\u00a0best protection\u00a0available against\u00a0severe\u00a0illness from respiratory viruses. Seasonal vaccination can help reduce the risk of severe disease,\u00a0hospitalization\u00a0and death, while also helping lessen community transmission and strain on the health care system.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Public Health especially encourages people at increased risk\u00a0of severe disease\u00a0to follow current immunization recommendations\u00a0and\u00a0make a plan\u00a0to get vaccinated as soon as possible.\u00a0This includes\u00a0infants and young children, older adults, pregnant persons, individuals with underlying conditions, and people living with\u00a0or\u00a0working with persons with\u00a0high risk\u00a0for severe disease.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u00a0\u201cRespiratory viruses can cause serious illness, particularly among our most vulnerable residents,\u201d said\u00a0Barbara Ferrer, Ph.D., M.P.H., M.P.A., Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health<\/strong>. \u201cAs we enter the 2026\u20132027 respiratory virus season, we encourage everyone in Los Angeles County to review the CDPH immunization recommendations for the 2025-2027 respiratory season and speak with their health care provider about the immunizations that are appropriate for them and their loved ones.\u00a0Staying up to date\u00a0on immunizations\u00a0is an important way to protect yourself and those around you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Where to Get Vaccines in LA County<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As of\u00a0September 17, 2025,\u00a0California state law<\/a>\u00a0ensures immunizations recommended by CDPH will continue to be covered by health care insurers regulated by the State of California.\u00a0Los Angeles County residents\u00a0who have insurance should talk to their healthcare provider or check with their local pharmacy\u00a0to obtain a vaccine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Those who are uninsured or underinsured may be able to obtain COVID-19, influenza and RSV vaccines through local public health clinics, federally qualified health centers and other participating vaccination providers. Public Health also encourages residents to take additional steps to reduce the spread of respiratory viruses, including staying home when sick, practicing good hand hygiene and considering masking in crowded indoor settings or when experiencing respiratory symptoms.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
