Hosted by the International Student Research & Innovation Foundation and co-organized by the International Association of Biomedical Sciences, the fair gave students in grades 8\u201312 an opportunity to present original research and discuss their work directly with experts. Students competed individually or in teams in four categories: Life & Health Sciences, Physical Sciences & Environment, Engineering & Technology, and Computer Science & AI.<\/span><\/p>\n Rigorous Judging at the Heart of the Event<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The poster judging session was at the heart of the event. Judges \u2014 professors and experts from multiple disciplines \u2014 interviewed each student one-on-one for 10 to 15 minutes, asking them to explain their research question, defend their methods and respond to questions. Modeled after an academic research conference, the format helped students strengthen critical thinking, scientific communication and public-speaking skills while receiving direct feedback.<\/span><\/p>\n Judges engage in face-to-face Q&A and discussion with students during the Innovation Competition<\/p><\/div>\n While the judges deliberated, Professor Song Li, Associate Dean of the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering, delivered a lecture on emerging developments in biomedical engineering \u2014 a highlight warmly received by students and parents alike.<\/span><\/p>\n Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for: the Awards Ceremony. Top projects in each category received cash prizes and certificates, with additional special recognitions \u2014 such as Best Interdisciplinary Project and Best Data Visualization \u2014 conferred at the judges’ discretion.<\/span><\/p>\n What Students Truly Gain from ISRIF<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Participants do not simply compete for a trophy, organizers said. Students present research face to face, receive professional feedback, and exchange ideas with outstanding peers from different countries \u2014 the experience of a real academic conference, one most students do not encounter until graduate school.<\/span><\/p>\n The fair also welcomes observers \u2014 students and families who come to watch peers present and feel the atmosphere of a genuine academic event. For many, a single afternoon of observation becomes the spark that turns an idle interest into a serious research question.<\/span><\/p>\n Trophies Are Only the Beginning<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The awardees may be young, and their research may not yet be perfect. But every serious question asked, every analysis performed, and every presentation delivered was a step toward future innovation \u2014 and an invaluable part of each participant’s academic journey.<\/span><\/p>\n What children explore earnestly today may well become tomorrow’s shining research achievement.
