The lawyer for former President George W. Bush turned over 42,000 pages of documents late Monday related to Brett Kavanaugh’s work inside the Bush administration.<\/p>\n

The Washington Post reported\u00a0<\/a>that the development occurred just hours before a confirmation hearing for Kavanaugh,\u00a0President Trump<\/a><\/span>‘s Supreme Court nominee, was set to begin.<\/p>\n

The lawyer,\u00a0William Burck, told Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman\u00a0Chuck Grassley<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(R-Iowa) that the documents, which were retrieved by the National Archives, should be\u00a0\u201ccommittee confidential,” according to the Post.<\/p>\n

The newspaper noted that the\u00a05,148 documents amounted to 42,390 pages.<\/p>\n

Senate Minority Leader\u00a0Charles Schumer<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(D-N.Y.) immediately voiced outrage due to the timing of the release.<\/p>\n

“The Senate was just given an additional 42,000 pages of Kavanaugh documents the NIGHT BEFORE his confirmation hearing,” Schumer tweeted Monday night.<\/p>\n

“This underscores just how absurd this process is. Not a single senator will be able to review these records before tomorrow.”<\/p>\n

Schumer added this has been the “least transparent\u00a0[Supreme Court] process in history” and called for the hearings to be delayed until lawmakers can fully review Kavanaugh’s documents.<\/p>\n

Pushing back at Schumer, Republican staff on the Senate Judiciary Committee\u00a0announced on Twitter<\/a>\u00a0late Monday that they had completed their review of the newly released papers related to Kavanaugh.<\/p>\n

The news regarding the records being turned over comes\u00a0only days after<\/a>it was reported that the Trump administration was\u00a0withholding\u00a0more than 100,000 pages of records\u00a0related\u00a0to Kavanaugh’s time as a White House lawyer.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration said it was withholding the documents on the basis of presidential privilege, according to a letter obtained by The Hill.<\/p>\n
