PORT OF LOS ANGELES HOSTS FREE HARBOR BOAT TOURS AND STEM ‘FUNSHOP’ ON SATURDAY, MAY 18

Boat Tours Depart from Two Port Locations in San Pedro and Wilmington 

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – May 1, 2019 – The Port of Los Angeles will host its annual free harbor boat tours and STEM Funshop on Saturday, May 18 to promote international trade in celebration of World Trade Week.

Free to the public, the narrated boat tours depart every 30 minutes, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (last tour of the day departs at 3 p.m.), from two Port locations: Banning’s Landing Community Center, located at 100 E. Water St. in Wilmington, and Los Angeles Maritime Museum, located at 600 Sampson Way (Berth 84), in San Pedro. Tours last one hour and each departing location covers a different route, both offering up-close, waterside views of America’s Port® — from containers and cranes to cruise ships and California sea lions. No reservations are required, and all ages are welcome.

This year, the Port will continue to offer pet-friendly tours for those who bring leashed, well-socialized dogs, departing at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. from both locations.

Also at Banning’s Landing Community Center, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Port will host the 2019 STEM Funshop, an educational event for students of all ages designed to stimulate the brain with hands-on activities focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Participants will have the opportunity to experience STEM-related Port activities demonstrated by Port of Los Angeles engineers, environmental specialists, police officers, and pilots.

Additional attractions for visitors to explore along the LA Waterfront open Saturday and within walking distance of the Los Angeles Maritime Museum, include the Fanfare Fountains at Gateway Plaza, Battleship IOWA, Los Angeles Harbor Fire Museum and Memorial, and San Pedro Fish Market. Other destinations nearby include the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, Fort MacArthur Museum, S.S. Lane Victory Merchant Marine Museum and Memorial, Cabrillo Way Marina, CRAFTED at the Port of Los Angeles, and Brouwerij West. Attractions near the Banning’s Landing Community Center include The Banning Museum and Drum Barracks Civil War Museum.
