NONPARTISAN WOMEN’S ORGANIZATION ENDORSES MAYOR FOLEY’S SENATE BID

Costa Mesa Mayor Katrina Foley Backed by Run Women Run in SD-37 Campaign

COSTA MESA, CA – Adding another boost of energy to her campaign for State Senate District 37, Costa Mesa Mayor Katrina Foley earned the endorsement of Run Women Run. Since 2008, Run Women Run has recruited and trained pro-choice women to run for office and fight for reproductive rights and equal representation.

In a statement remarking on the endorsement, Run Women Run Director of Operations Melissa Jones remarked:

“Katrina Foley has consistently championed equal representation and reproductive rights throughout her career as a Mayor, Councilmember, School Board Member, and attorney. Katrina’s work advocating for women started at a young age, as she established her law school’s first women’s resource center to serve domestic violence victims and chaired the women’s law caucus. And she hasn’t slowed down since, winning multiple awards for her work on women’s issues in Orange County. Run Women Run is proud to endorse Mayor Foley’s efforts to continue this legacy in Sacramento, because we know she will be a dedicated fighter for women.”

Mayor Foley reflected on the endorsement by saying:

“As Costa Mesa’s first directly elected Mayor on a majority women council we hired a Latina as city manager and woman city attorney to lead our city team. It’s changed the culture and priorities at city hall.   I believe it is incredibly important for women to  represent at every level of government, including the State Senate where only 10 of the 40 Senators are women. Only when women and women’s groups support more women will we achieve gender equity. I know I have the dedication and skill, it’s great to also enjoy the support of women leaders and organizations like Run Women Run to get me there. As Senator, I will continue to build coalitions of similar and unlikely allies, lead by listening to neighborhood leaders, working family advocates, women, labor advocates, environmentalists and business owners alike, as well as many others to ensure the California dream is within reach for all residents.”
