Los Angeles’ Warm Welcome Overwhelms Mr. Ma Ying-Jeou

R.O. China Former President Ma Ying-jeou arrived in Los Angeles on Nov. 4th for his tight 4 day schedule. His schedule includes visiting several associations and gives two addresses on the current status of Taiwan-China relations. He is one of the most favorite politician in oversea Chinese communities. During his visit in Los Angeles, it is called “Ma whirlwind” whenever he showed up.

On his second day in Los Angeles, he visited Chinatown and the USS Iowa Museum, a decommissioned battleship that served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of WW2 and in the Korean War as well.

Same day evening, he was warm welcomed with 1000 guests banquet which was overwhelmed Mr. Ma.

Ma’s first talk was at the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism this afternoon (Nov. 6th).

The University’s Center on Public Diplomacy hosted the event ‘A Conversation with Ma Ying-jeou’ where topics included the role of commerce, exchange, and tourism in forging bonds and easing cross-strait tensions. The Audiences not only the students from Taiwan also a lot from China Mainland. The tickets were not enough for all applicants, finally was given by luck draw.

The second address is to be hosted by an American think-tank based in Los Angeles, the Pacific Council on International Policy the following day. The Pacific Council on International Policy was founded in 1995 in partnership with the Council on Foreign Relations, with an aim to provide a US West Coast perspective on important foreign policy issues.

This is his second visit to the United States in 2017, and his third since stepping down as President of Taiwan in 2016.
