CALIFORNIA’S LARGEST UNION, SEIU CALIFORNIA, ENDORSES MIKE ENG FOR STATE SENATE

EL MONTE, CASEIU California State Council, representing over 700,000 working men and women throughout California, has endorsed Former Assemblymember and Educator Mike Eng for the open 22nd State Senate District.  SEIU California is part of the Service Employees International Union, one of the largest and fastest growing unions in the United States representing a wide variety of workers including nurses, janitors, university faculty, security guards, county employees, state employees, school staff, home care workers, and many others.

“SEIU members need leaders in Sacramento who have a real record of standing with working men and women in the struggle for decent wages, educational opportunities starting at birth and extending through college, healthcare, pensions, and better working conditions,” said Elissa Underwood, a Phlebotomist and SEIU-UHW member from Kaiser Permanente. “Mike Eng has a track record of working hard to improve the lives of working families in his district.  We know he will fight for us in Sacramento. That’s why we’ve chosen to endorse him and will fight for him to be our representative in the legislature.”

“I am absolutely humbled by this endorsement,” said Eng, “I come from a working class family where we were taught from very early on the importance of hard work and standing up for your community – things that the members of SEIU California do every day.  I look forward to working with them to improve the quality of life for working men and women in the 22nd District and throughout our state.”

Mike’s campaign for State Senate has gathered a huge amount of momentum lately with major endorsements from organizations like SEIU California, Communication Workers of America, International Longshore Workers Unions, Equality California, numerous members of the State Assembly and Senate, and the vast majority of elected officials from communities within the 22nd State Senate District including all of the best known District leaders including incumbent Senator Ed Hernandez, Supervisors Hilda Solis and Kathryn Barger, Congressmembers Judy Chu and Grace Napolitano and Assemblymember Ed Chau – far outpacing his opponents. Most recently, Mike was overwhelmingly recommended for official endorsement by the California Democratic Party at the local SD 22 caucus with 91% of the delegate vote.

Mike Eng previously served in the State Assembly, on the L.A. Community College District Board of Trustees, and on the Monterey Park City Council.
