Friday, Sept. 7
■ Row for a Reason event
Body One Fitness presents the fourth annual “Row for a Reason” event to raise funds for Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach Friday, Sept. 7, from 4 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 8, from 7 a.m. to noon. Body One Fitness is located at 201 Herondo Street, Redondo Beach. Gym owner and founder of Row for a Reason, Lou Sidella, will dedicate all row machines to the fundraiser for the duration of the event. Participants can sign up to row in half-hour time slots for a $50 donation and are encouraged to row at their own pace and invite friends to share the rowing with them. They are also encouraged to have friends and family donate to support their efforts. Sidella hopes to raise $25,000 for CSCRB this year. The event kick off on Sept. 7, will include food provided by Hermosa Fish Shop and Ashley’s Deli. BodySpec testing services will also be present from 1 to 7 p.m, and will donate 20 percent of all fat scans performed to the event. ■ Hermosa Movies at the Beach
“The Incredibles” will be screened as part of the Hermosa Movies at the Beach Saturday, Sept. 8, beginning at 6 p.m., at The Strand and the Pier. ■ Doug Cameron performance
Electric violinist Doug Cameron performs at part of the South Bay Community Concert Association, Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Redondo Union High School Auditorium, located at the corner of N. Pacific Coast Highway and Diamond Street, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Cameron has toured and recorded with Gregg Allman and has also collaborated with David Benoit, George Benson, Earth, Wind & Fire and more. ■ Redondo Beach Chalk Art Festival

■ Global warming action event
“Reuse+Recycle+ReArt” event to fight global warming takes place Saturday, Sept. 8, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., beginning at the Redondo Beach Main Library. On September 8, thousands of rallies will be held in cities and towns around the world to demand local leaders commit to building a fossil free world. Use recycling and artistic talents to bring or make signs from previously used materials, including cardboard, plastic, previously used or scrap paper, pieces of old furniture, for example. If capacity is reached, they will walk down Pacific Coast Highway in front of St. James Church and over to Veteran’s Park and return. In addition, they will be collecting the following recyclables for Precious Plastics including No. 7 and HDPE No. 2 (empty/pre-rinsed detergent, liquid soap, medicine bottles), which they can remake them into surfboard fins. ■ Avery family fundraiser
Kendra Scott, located at The Point in El Segundo, hosts a shopping fundraiser for the Avery Family on Saturday, Sept. 8, from noon to 3 p.m. Kalea Avery, 6 years old, after experiencing several weeks of severe headache, had a brain tumor called Medulloblastoma removed on June 11, 2018. Her 4-year-old brother Noah Avery started complaining of headaches two weeks after Kalea. He was also diagnosed with a brain tumor and had the removal on June 25, 2018. Both will have to undergo intensive courses of both chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Because both children need extensive treatment Kendra Scott will be donating 20 percent of all sales to the Avery family on Sept. 8 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Kendra Scott store will also be selling an exclusive Noah necklace and Kalea bracelet that was created by the children. The sales of the necklace and the bracelet will also go back to the cost of treatment for Noah and Kalea. Kendra Scott is located at 830 S. Sepulveda Blvd., Suite 114, in El Segundo.
■ Live Your Dreams Awards workshop
Soroptimist International of Manhattan Beach will hold one-hour workshops on Sept. 8 (11 a.m.) and Sept. 12 (7 p.m.) for applicants interested in learning about the “Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women” with $1,000 grants to be awarded in March 2019. ■ Pacific Electric Railroad history talk
Historian Michael Patris, author of “The Mount Lowe Trilogy,” will speak at the Redondo Beach Main Library, located at 303 N. Pacific Coast Highway, Saturday, Sept. 8, beginning at 11 a.m. Patris’ trilogy, begins with “Mount Lowe Railway,” part of the History of Rail series for Arcadia Publishing. Co-authored by Patris and Steve Crise, are “Pacific Electric Railway, Then and Now” and “Mount Lowe, Then and Now.” Patris’ current project is a hardbound book on Los Angeles Union Station, in collaboration with Crise. ■Taste at the Beach
Wines and favorite dishes from local restaurants highlight the Hermosa Kiwanis Foundation’s 10th annual Taste at the Beach, which takes place Saturday, Sept. 8, in the courtyard of Hermosa Beach Community Center, located at 710 Pier Ave.
The event features fine wines, craft brews, dishes from local restaurants, live jazz by the Brian Sisson Trio and a silent auction. Tickets for the event, which takes place from 3 to 6 p.m., are $65, or $75 at the door, and are available at tasteatthebeach.org.
■ LAX Talk – open forum
ESMoA will host a moderated discussion about the future of LAX and explore creative collaborations between LAX, El Segundo, and neighboring communities Saturday, Sept. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the art laboratory located at 208 Main Street in El Segundo. ■ National Charity League meeting
The National Charity League-South Bay Chapter, a mother-daughter local philanthropy organization, will have its next meeting Tuesday, Sept. 11, at American Martyrs’ Kateri room. Its meeting will cover issues of the opioid crisis, overdose, marijuana legalization, and vaping, and substance use issues that are affecting teens and public health and safety in the South Bay. They will have several great speakers lined up to educate parents. Their teams donate hundreds of hours each year to Operation Gratitude, stuffing and shipping needed supplies and correspondence letters to our troops overseas.
