Rapper Mac Miller dead at 26 of suspected drug overdose

Rapper Mac Miller died Friday from a drug overdose, according to reports.

The 26-year-old singer was pronounced dead at his home in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles after being found in a bedroom there at around noon, cops told TMZ.

Emergency workers responded at 11:42 a.m. to his Studio City home after a 911 call was placed, the Los Angeles Fire Department told the Daily News. Police showed up at 11:50 a.m. to respond to a “death investigation.” “It appears to be non-criminal in nature, so the coroner’s officer was requested to respond and resume responsibility,” LAPD Det. Meghan Aguilar told the Daily News.

Known for songs like “Donald Trump” (2011), Miller has struggled with substance abuse and legal issues over the years.

In May, he was arrested for a DUI and hit and run after crashing into a power pole and fleeing the scene. He later admitted to the crash when police arrived at his home, cops said.

And he told Complex in 2013 that negative reviews of his 2011 studio album “Blue Slide Park” — which debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart — caused him to become addicted to the antihistamine promethazine, also known as “lean.”

Miller dated singer Ariana Grande from 2016 until May of this year. After his arrest that month, Grande tweeted, “Pls take care of yourself.”

On May 23, responding to a tweet that blamed her for Miller’s DUI, Grande tweeted: “how absurd that you minimize female self-respect and self-worth by saying someone should stay in a toxic relationship…I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be. I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years.”

The rapper’s “Donald Trump” song was released five years before the then-businessman and reality show host was elected President. Lyrics gushing over Trump’s wealth include lines like “Look at all his money,” and “We gonna take over the world while these haters gettin’ mad.”

Trump took notice and seemed to become obsessed with the song’s popularity, firing off dozens of tweets about how many views the music video was racking up and claimed he should get royalties. “The song ‘Donald Trump’ hits 54 million views. @MacMiller – Where’s my money?” Trump tweeted in 2012, the same year he posted, “Rapper @MacMiller’s song ‘Donald Trump’ now has 57 million hits— I created another star— where’s my cut?”

Miller was remembered Friday by fans and fellow celebrities. “Rest in your peace Mac Miller,” singer Solange Knowles tweeted. “Always exuded so much kindness and goodness. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us all.”

Fellow rapper Post Malone wrote, “You were such an incredible person. You changed so many lives. Had so much love in your heart. You inspired me throughout highschool, and I wouldn’t be where I was today without you. Never a more kind and sincere and beautiful person.”

A rep for Miller did not immediately return a request for comment.

When reached by phone Friday afternoon, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office would not confirm Miller’s death.
