Robert De Niro and Joe Biden receive suspected mail
A suspicious package found Thursday at the Tribeca building housing Robert De Niro’s office and two more addressed to former Vice President Joe Biden in Delaware are similar to the malicious mailings sent to top Democrats a day earlier, according to law enforcement officials.
Police flooded Lower Manhattan before sunrise as they responded to a 911 call just before 5 a.m. about a package addressed to De Niro at 375 Greenwich St., home to the actor’s office, the Tribeca Film Center and the Tribeca Grill.
Late yesterday, authorities said they believed there was a package somewhere in the postal system addressed to him.
Police received a call about a package around 4 a.m. Thursday from a building worker in New York, who remembered seeing it a day or two earlier and realized it was similar to the packages sent to Democratic politicians, according to the report. NBC New York earlier reported that the package had been received early Thursday.
There was no need for an evacuation because the restaurant was closed at the time. The New York City police bomb squad removed the package from the building, The Associated Press reported.
