Ford Motor Co. recalls 1.5 million Focus
Ford has recalled nearly 1.5 million Ford Focuses that have a malfunctioning part which could cause the cars to stall and increase the risk of a crash.
The recall is for 2012-18 Focuses that have 2.0-liter GDI and 2.0-liter GTDI engines that have a canister purge valve that could become stuck in an open position, Ford said in a release.
This could cause a problem with the car’s fuel tank, causing the driver to see a “malfunction indicator light or a fuel gauge with fluctuating or inaccurate fuel levels,” Ford announced.
“This could lead to a stall while driving and/or an inability to restart the vehicle, which can increase the risk of a crash,” the release stated.
The company asked anyone with an affected vehicle to keep their tank at least half full until the recall is completed.
Ford said it was not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires related to the malfunctioning valve.
There are 1,282,596 affected Focuses in the United States, 136,272 in Canada and 44,521 in Mexico, according to the release.
Car dealers will inspect and replace the valve and make any other necessary repairs as needed at no charge.
