Description
Film collaboration between the U.S. and China is becoming increasingly vital for both countries in terms of film education, production, business, and cultural exchange. But through the process of this collaboration, there are also numerous challenges, opportunities, and questions to be explored. This forum will bring together educators, filmmakers, historians, curators, archivists, and academics to discuss the challenges, opportunities and history of collaboration between the U.S. and Chinese film industries. Some of the themes to be covered will include: How did American-style film education influence the development of film studies in China during the 1980s? How do American scholars interact with Chinese literature and film? How has the Margaret Herrick Library (Oscar Library) preserved and archived Chinese films? How have Chinese filmmakers adapt American films for Chinese audiences? What are some of the new methods of co-production between Hollywood and the Chinese film industry?
This conference is generously supported by the UCLA Department of Asian Languages & Cultures, Chinese in Entertainment, GOLDEN GIRDER DISIGN, SHA DESIGN, and is funded by the International Graduate Student Association, and Chinese Student and Scholars Association at UCLA.
