Southern California Sichuan University Alumni Association (Preparatory Committee) Celebrates Christmas and New Year
On December 21, 2018, Southern California Sichuan University Alumni Association (SCSUAA, Preparatory Committee) held its inaugural Christmas and New Year Party in Los Angeles. Nearly 20 alumni of SCSUAA (including the original Sichuan University, Chengdu University of Science and Technology, and Huaxi Medical University) attended the party.
After several meetings to discuss nominations and appointments, alumni gathered merrily to announce Jianmin Shi (Department of Physics, 1978) as the first President of SCSUAA to manage all general work; Hai Lin (Department of Physics, 1978) as the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Nanning Zhang (Department of Physics, 1978) and Bo Zhu (Department of Foreign Languages, 1988) as the Vice Chairman, responsible for business exchanges and cooperation; Cheng Yu (Department of Applied Physics,1978) as the Vice President, responsible for science and technology education exchange; Yuehong Chang (Department of Chemical Engineering, 1988) as Vice President, responsible for cultural exchange; Chi Chen (Ph.D program, College of Literature and Journalism, 2011) asVice President and the Secretary-General; Guoer Chen (Department of Literature and Journalism, 2004) and Jingyan Wang (Department of Dental Prosthetics, 2006) as the Deputy Secretary-General, responsible for organizing alumni association activities, contacting members, and contacting other associations and media.
The Preparatory Committee also discussed plans for locating greater numbers of alumni, establishing the SCSUAA, actively participating in the Chinese University Alumni Association Alliance of Southern California, and registering and filing of SCSUAA withthe alma mater. President Jianmin Shi said: “I am very grateful to all the alumni for taking part in today’s alumni family gathering. Thank you to Lin’s family for their hospitality, and to Chi Chen for being our contact with the alma mater, and bringing us the beautiful alumni T-shirts, the badge and the greetings. Finally, I thank all the directors for their participation and dedication. Let us work together to build our alumni a second home.”Deputy Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles, Shuangming Dai, said: “The establishment of SCSUAA serves the expectations and needs not only for the local alumni, but future alumni and exchange students who will come to study in the southern California. I believe that SCSUAA will grow even stronger and livelier with everyone’s support and efforts.”
Dressed in group t–shirts and school badges presented by the alma mater, members gathered together to tasteSichuan cuisine, sing songs, take group photos, and share stories from their school days.
