There will be a red carpet where families of Medal of Honor recipients, local political leaders, Veterans, Active-Duty Military, and community supporters will have an opportunity to come together for one purpose, to celebrate the Medal of Honor.
Opening our evening will be the Centennial American Legion National Commander, Brett Reistad, followed by our very special guest, Chairman of the House of Veteran Affairs Committee, Rep. Mark Takano. Our partner, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Director, Dr. Jonathan Sherin, M.D., Ph.D., will share a few words, followed by our very own Post 283 Commander, Jere Romano.
Finally, our partner, the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation will be recognized and appreciated for their magnanimous efforts by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. We will host a screening of an episode of the original Netflix documentary series followed by a discussion and Q&A featuring:
● Ilene Bezjian, West Coast Executive Director of the Medal of Honor Foundation;
● Col. Peter D. Crean, USA (Ret), VP of Education and Access at The National WWII Museum;
● Allene Carter, Author of Honoring Sergeant Carter, and daughter-in-law to Edward Carter;
● James Moll, Executive Producer of Netflix’s Medal of Honor series;
● Jay McCann, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, and Post 283 Judge Advocate.
This event will honor the uncommon valor and sacrifice of our Medal of Honor recipients while bringing awareness to Medal of Honor Day, a federal holiday, observed annually on March 25th. The American Legion asks that our fellow
Americans take a moment to cherish the freedom and democracy
these heroic members of our nation’s military fought so hard to defend around the world. Finally, we ask for this great nation’s continued support for our Service-Members and Veterans.
