The East Los Angeles College (ELAC) Foundation received $2,000 in gift cards from Ross Stores, Inc. to provide professional clothing for job-seeking ELAC students in need.
The generous contribution will benefit the ELAC Foundation’s Transforming Lives Campaign (TLC), which provides support for students facing significant challenges. Far beyond the cost of textbooks or tuition, many ELAC students are dealing with unstable housing and food insecurity. In fact, one in every five of the Los Angeles Community College District’s 230,000 students is homeless, and nearly two-thirds can’t afford to eat properly.
The forty $50 gift cards provided by Ross Store Inc. will directly benefit students who are in need, but are currently seeking employment. The gift cards will be used for professional clothing needed to successfully enter the workforce.
“We are grateful to receive such a generous contribution from Ross Stores in support of the Transforming Lives Campaign. Providing professional clothing for our students will directly assist students to complete their educational and career goals,” said Paul De La Cerda, ELAC’s Dean of Resource, Economic Development & Innovation and Executive Director of the ELAC Foundation.
