House passed H.R. 1, the For the People Act

Letter from Congressman Ted Lieu:

It’s not every day that the House of Representatives passes a once-in-a-generation reform bill with the power to drastically alter the course of our democracy, but on Friday, that’s exactly what we did: We passed H.R. 1!

H.R. 1, or the For the People Act, isn’t just legislation. It’s a promise — a promise to restore transparency and equality to a broken system, to give hard working Americans more power in our democracy, and to clean up Washington once and for all. That means:

✔ Making it easier, not harder, to vote by enacting automatic voter registration across the country, expanding early voting, and restoring the Voting Rights Act.

✔ Ending the dominance of dark money in our politics by amplifying the power of small-dollar donations and tightening the laws on Super PACs.

✔ Ensuring your elected officials are working for YOU by cracking down on conflicts of interest and lobbying loopholes, and requiring presidents to disclose their tax returns.
