‘Several’ U.S. citizens killed in terror attacks in Sri Lanka

“Several” U.S. citizens were among the hundreds killed in the coordinated terror attacks in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, according to officials.

The attacks came in the form of explosions at three churches and three hotels in the South Asian island country. More than 200 people were killed, including at least 27 foreigners.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement that some U.S. citizens were killed, and vowed that the U.S. Embassy will work “tirelessly to provide all possible assistance” to American citizens impacted by the attacks.

“The United States offers our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those killed and wishes a quick recovery to all who were injured,” the statement read. “While many details of the attack are still emerging, we can confirm that several U.S. citizens were among those killed.”
