Top 10 news of Chinese communities in Southern California in 2019
(Los Angeles, December 23rd, 2019) American Chinese NGO Research Association, North American Chinese New Media Poll Center, American Chinese Youth Journalists Association, the “Los Angeles Post” and other agencies jointly announced “the United States Southern California Chinese community 2019 Top Ten News “selection results on December 23.
According to the orgnizers, this year’s selection focuses on forward-looking issues such as the development of Chinese communities and innovation in activity models; their sustainable development; their influence in their societies; and the role of the new generation of Chinese in the rapidly changing society and international relations.
According to the time sequence of events, the top ten news of the Chinese community in 2019 in Southern California are:
- The CalTech Quantum Information Association, which was initiated by three PhD students studying at the California Institute of Technology, was announced in Los Angeles in early January. PhD student Roger is the founding chairman of the California Institute of Technology Quantum Information Association, focusing on high-end cutting-edge technology. As a multi-ethnic high-end professional academic society founded by Chinese students, it has opened up a new field of Chinese student associations.
- The Social Innovation & Education Association (SEA), a social innovation community initiated and formed by Chinese students from the United States and the new generation of Chinese, hosted the first Social Innovation Forum in Pasadena, Los Angeles on April 14. “SEED Social Innovation Seed Community”, “PEER Yiheng Friends”, “Manding Children”, “Youth Social Leader Field Camping”, “FYPO Progress Only for You”, the All China Youth Federation and other organizations participated. This forum is not only the first in the international student community, but also the first social innovation forum in the Chinese community in the United States. It has important historical significance. The new generation of overseas students and Chinese youth is full of ideals, social responsibility and sense of mission, and is gradually becoming the main body of social innovation in Chinese Americans.
- The annual selection of “Top Ten Outstanding Chinese American Youths” and “Thirty Young Chinese Elites Under the Age of 30” that have attracted much attention from the mainstream American society. With the surge in the number of applications and nominations this year, a list of “30 Chinese Chinese Elite Under 30” was added. The three lists of high-quality candidates are hailed as the nation’s most influential and credible young Chinese elite list. The list is announced before May 4 each year, and has become the most prominent icon of the Chinese community during the Asian-Pacific Traditional Culture Month in the United States.
- The Overseas Chinese Youth Forum (OYCF) 2019 Annual Meeting was held in San Diego, Southern California from July 6th to 7th. Nearly 70 experts, scholars, representatives of non-profit organizations, and students from the United States and China participated in this year’s annual meeting. The Overseas Chinese Youth Forum (OYCF) was established in 1999. The forum activities aim to cultivate members’ interest in China’s development and promote education and cultural exchange between China and foreign countries.
- The Heming Wei Care for Veterans of the United States Veterans Foundation is the first non-profit organization in Southern California that is sponsored by Chinese to care for disabled veterans. A grand charity dinner was held in Los Angeles on the evening of July 27 to donate to American veterans. Get the attention of mainstream media.
- Thirty years of deep-rooted American society, the Tzu Chi American Federation hosted “Thanksgiving • Respect • Life • Love – Love Music” meeting”. Tzu Chi groups throughout the United States have also been organized one after another.
- The Los Angeles premiere of the world premiere of the Chinese film “I and My Country” was held on the evening of September 30, 2019 at the AMC Film Center in Arcadia. - On the evening of October 6, 2019, the Zhejiang Youth League of Southern California held a Zhejiang Youth Reception in Santa Monica, Los Angeles. The average age of members is 25 years old, young elites gather, and the form of activities is novel. Southern California Zhejiang Youth League has become the most influential communication platform for Zhejiang youth in Southern California.
- On October 13, 2019, the 18th “Songzhumei Picnic” hosted by the Southern California Chinese College Alumni Association was attended by 50 college alumni associations from three places across the Taiwan Strait. The day’s activities included traditional entertainment activities, and new innovations were added this year: Red Ribbon Friendship, Games Competitions, Singing Competitions, New Media Competitions and other activities. The number of participants (1300) reached a record high.
- On November 24, 2019, the Nankai-Hong Kong-Macao Friendship Association and other overseas Chinese associations; on December 15, 2019, the U.S. Macao Overseas Friendship Association and the United States Beijing Federation of Associations held separate events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the return of Macau. Many overseas Chinese from mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan participated.
