ROUDA FINISHES IN 1ST PLACE WITH RESOUNDING PRIMARY VICTORY

Rouda Leads Nearest Opponent by 6%

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Tonight, Harley Rouda declared victory in the primary for California’s 48th congressional district, leading his nearest opponent by 6% as of the time of this release. The district still has tens of thousands of ballots left to be counted that are expected to heavily favor Rouda – in 2018, Rouda gained roughly 7% in vote margin after election night in late ballots.

Responding to the victory, Rouda stated:

“I dedicated my first year in office to bringing common-sense solutions to the problems facing our community. Our district has rejected partisanship and Washington politics as usual, and tonight was a resounding example of that commitment. I’m running for re-election to continue our work to lower prescription drug costs, protect our coastline, and stand up to the insiders and special interests that run Washington. Our community’s trust means everything to me – I’m proud to have earned it, and I will continue fighting to deliver bipartisan solutions for coastal Orange County.”

Rouda enters the general election in an incredibly strong position – having outraised his leading opponent 2.5 to 1 in the most recent campaign finance filings.

Rouda’s results are by far the strongest performance any Democrat has ever had in a top-two primary in the 48th Congressional district – no Democrat has ever earned more than 30% of the vote in a primary in this district.
