WESTMINSTER, CA — In another indication of his extensive, wide-ranging support among working men and women in the race for the Orange County Board of Supervisors First District, today Westminster Councilmember Sergio Contreras announced endorsements from three prominent labor unions: Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 441, and UA Local 582 Plumbers & Steamfitters.
Southwest Regional Carpenters Local 714 representative Rich Gomez released the following statement announcing their endorsement:
“Sergio Contreras is the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters’ choice for Orange County Supervisor. As a City Councilman and former school board member, he understands the needs of his constituents and how to get things done for people. He understands the needs of business and their workers and the importance of skilled training opportunities for our young people and safe working environments for all. We are excited to see the improvements Sergio will make on the Board of Supervisors to ensure that Orange County will have a skilled and trained workforce that will provide good wages and attract businesses to Orange County.”
The leadership of UA Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 582 also released the following statement:
“The United Association of Plumbers, Steamfitters, Welders, & Apprentices of Local 582 here in Orange County would like to formally announce our endorsement of our labor candidate in District 1 for the Orange County Supervisors, Sergio Contreras. Sergio has shown candid leadership in the city of Westminster as a council member and former school board member. He undoubtedly will continue to keep us, blue-collar workers, at the forefront of all decisions made stemming from the Board of Supervisors. Today, organized labor is not a priority for our current supervisors. Tomorrow, Sergio will be the voice for organized labor as our next District 1 Orange County Supervisor!”
