COVID-19 TESTING FOR LOS ANGELES COUNTY PUBLIC HOUSING RESIDENTS

Senior Residents and Families Get Tested
Within Steps from Home

Long Beach, CA, July 7, 2020 – The Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA) is pleased to announce its partnership with the Central Neighborhood Health Foundation (CNHF) to conduct COVID-19 testing for seniors and families at the Carmelitos Public Housing community.

With the increase of positive cases proliferating throughout California, Los Angeles County continues to have the leading loss of life brought by the pandemic. The LACDA staff joined CNHF to pre-register residents for COVID-19 testing and issuing one call reminders. Testing was performed on Thursday, July 2, 2020, using minimal contact through a supervised self-administered nasal swab from CNHF.  There was no cost to residents, and test results were provided within 48 hours.

Emilio Salas, LACDA Acting Executive Director said, “It is evident that disadvantaged communities of color are enduring the full impact of the pandemic. By making COVID-19 tests available onsite, we are eliminating the challenge of residents commuting to testing sites and minimizing the likelihood of further exposure.”

CNHF conducted the testing with appropriate COVID-19 safety measures in place (masks, physical distancing, testing by appointment/one person at a time, etc.) and reported all testing to the State. CNHF is also tentatively scheduled to provide COVID-19 testing for residents at the Nueva Maravilla Community on July 16, 2020.
