An 82-years old Chinese woman trying to fly a 76 years old US made airplane
Mrs. Florence Fang just came back from China to attend the official donating ceremony of my airplane in Guilin, Guangxi Province, China. Mrs. Fang donated an original WWII Flying Tiger C-47 airplane to Flying Tigers Heritage Park.
“It took us a long process to acquire the airplane and modernize its navigation. For its final journey, it took us about 3 months to fly the old airplane from Australia to China, to re-enact the flight over the old Hump Flight Route (over Himalaya Mountains). ” Mrs. Fang said.
According to Mrs. Fang “Many young pilots cannot fly this old bird anymore, and most young mechanics don’t understand and able to fix it anymore. Thus we had to hire over 70 years old pilots and mechanic for this meaningful and historic flight. I believe it is the last WWII US made airplane to fly the old hump route.”
It finally arrived safely in Guilin and now displayed at FTHP as symbol of US-China friendship.
The airplane reminds us that U.S. & China had been good allies during the WWII. The Chinese government and Chinese people really appreciate the deeds American had done in China.
