Harley Rouda Hosts Day Of Service In Honor Of MLK

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Yesterday, former Congressman Harley Rouda hosted a food drive in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Day of service. The event took place at the office for Families Forward, an Orange County-based nonprofit that serves homeless families.

The group collected six pickup trucks, six sedans, two minivans, and two SUVs full of food, diapers, masks, disinfectant, from over 160 volunteers. Rouda plans on continuing the event by hosting a day of service regularly to give back to the community.

Former Congressman Rouda released the following statement reflecting on the event:

“I first and foremost want to thank everyone who came out to our National Day of Service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Legacy. Their selfless dedication to our community is a reminder of what we can do to uplift the most vulnerable among us.

In many ways, with the galling injustice of the pandemic and Capitol insurrection on full display, there has never been a more crucial time to remember Dr. King’s mission and complete his life’s work of racial and economic justice for all.

This righteous fight is incumbent on each and every one of us. We must all be engaged, and we must continue our nation’s charge towards equality.”
