Yorkshire Terrier Rescued from Traffic Intersection then Reunited with its Owner
On Saturday, Officer McLagan was headed back to the Palmdale animal care center after completing a call of picking up a large Great Pyrenees. As Officer McLagan was moments away from entering the animal care center, she observed traffic slowing down, coming to a stop, and vehicles veering out of their lanes. Shortly after, Officer McLagan was able to see what was in the road and noticed a Yorkshire Terrier running into traffic.
Officer McLagan, without hesitation jumped into action, secured her safety and put on her reflective vest. She then turned her vehicle amber lights on, and with the help of a Good Samaritan, they safely rescued the dog and removed it from a foreseeable, heartbreaking incident that we all see way too often.
Once at the Palmdale animal care center, Officer McLagan scanned the Yorkshire Terrier for a microchip and fortunately was able to locate a microchip! She was able to trace the information to Emanuele and Martin. After contacting Emanuele and Martin, they shared with Officer McLagan, that “Princess” was lost/stolen over a year ago from the backyard of the family’s home and they thought the idea of ever seeing “Princess” again was highly unlikely. Emanuele and Martin scheduled to pick up “Princess” the very next day.
On Sunday, Martin came to the Palmdale animal care center with tears in his eyes, overjoyed thanking Officer McLagan for “finding their four-legged daughter “Princess,” Martin stated. “We are still in shock, feeling joy and intense emotions; and we sincerely appreciate all you have done to save her life.”
Without the swiftness of Officer McLagan rescuing the dog from the busy intersection and doing her due diligence by scanning the dog, this reunion could not be possible. A year must have felt like 10 years to Martin and Emanuele, but it will feel like an eternity with the memories they will create now that “Princess” is back home.
When Martin came into the Palmdale animal care center, he brought his other Yorkshire Terrier to make the reunion even more special for “Princess”.
“The most rewarding part of our work is reuniting lost pets with their beloved families ” said DACC Director Marcia Mayeda. “We are thrilled to see this happy ending and are glad to have facilitated this joyful reunion.”
