Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate Mel Wilson Announces New Year’s Resolutions for the City After He is Elected
LOS ANGELES (December 29, 2021) — Los Angeles has not had an effective mayor in several years. Mayor Eric Garcetti’s imminent resignation leaves the City of Angels in desperate straits for nearly a year. Mel Wilson will fill that void in leadership and become the mayor that the city needs during these troubled times with visionary ideas.
The Covid-19 pandemic is raging, homelessness is out of control, home prices continue to rise as do rental costs, violent crimes are on the rise and climate fluctuations are out of control. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Wilson will move quickly from Day 1 on solving these problems that are plaguing Los Angeles.
When asked why he is running for mayor of Los Angeles, Wilson stated: “I am a servant leader and a person of strong faith who has the experience to solve complex problems in times of crisis. Hope is on the way. I believe that by working and praying together, God will be on our side. Afterall this is the City of Angels!”
During the holidays, Wilson gave considerable thought to what he would focus on during his first days in office. That’s right, he did not sit around and roast chestnuts on an open fire. And neither did he say, “bah humbug” to the most wonderful time of the year. Instead, he gave thanks to being given the opportunity to run for office and make a positive difference in the lives of millions of Angelenos.

He accepted volunteer appointments by L.A. County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, Mayors’ Tom Bradley, Richard Riordan, and Antonio Villaraigosa and served with distinction. His service included Metro Boards, L.A. County Regional Planning Council and the L.A. City Fire Commission. Mel has served as a gifted manager, leader in the Chamber of Commerce and the housing advocate for the Southland Regional Association of Realtors, a regional housing advocacy trade group.
Millions of Angelenos have benefited because of Mel Wilson’s faithful work. On the Metro Board, Wilson showed his concern for climate change by pushing the Metro Board to eliminate the use of diesel fuel—which is known to cause cancer—and convert the fleet of vehicles to utilize low emission fuels. Mel Wilson led the charge to gain approval for the LAX Crenshaw Line, he fought for funding for the Leimert Park Station and championed the voice of San Fernando Valley residents by fighting for the North San Fernando Valley Light Rail Project, the San Fernando Valley’s only rail project.
Mel Wilson has a track record of using his voice and position to positively impact the communities in which he has been honored to serve. Wilson is a two-time member of the Metro Board and served with the five L.A. County Board of Supervisors. Mel Wilson was instrumental in numerous key projects in Los Angeles including the construction of the Metro Red, Gold, Green, Expo Lines, widening Interstate 405 Freeway and rebuilding Interstate 10 and Hwy 14 in the aftermath of the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. As a L.A. City Fire Commissioner, Wilson convinced the city council to hire 500 new paramedics to make sure each fire station citywide had paramedic crews available 24/7 to respond to growing emergency medical calls.
