Expansion of Public Defender Services for Immigrants results from Historic Settlement

Today the United States District Court approved a settlement of a class-action suit brought by non-citizens, including Los Angeles County Public Defender clients wrongfully detained for deportation. To effectuate the settlement, the parties have turned to the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office. The Public Defender will receive settlement funds to provide additional legal services for clients facing immigration proceedings. With a dedicated Immigration Unit established to serve its non-citizen clients, their families, and communities, the Public Defender’s Office gratefully and humbly welcomes the opportunity to further its mission to defend and advocate on behalf of the affected individuals and the impacted communities.
