Chinese students at UC Riverside Chinese New Year Banquet

Riverside, California, February 12, 2022 – On the evening of February 11, nearly 300 Chinese students from the University of California, Riverside gathered together for a reunion dinner to welcome the Chinese New Year. The Chinese Students and Scholars Association of the University of California, Riverside (UCR-CSSA), which hosted the Chinese New Year Reunion Banquet, prepared exquisite delicacies and dumplings for the students. The live games and lucky draw sessions kept driving and enlivening the atmosphere of the reunion banquet. This is also the only Chinese New Year Reunion Banquet hosted by Chinese international students in Southern California.

Li Hongyu, president of UC Riverside Chinese Students and Scholars Association (UCR-CSSA), is a Chinese student from Anhui who is studying for an MBA in Marketing and Finance. He said: “We broke the tradition of holding the Spring Festival Gala in the past, and this time we set up a banquet for the students to celebrate the Spring Festival together.”

UC Riverside Vice Provost for International Affairs Marko Princevac, UC Riverside Assistant Principal, Special Advisor to the Provost for Strategic Development and International Admissions Wang Jun, on behalf of the school, congratulated Chinese students on the Chinese New Year and wished them health and success in their studies. . The reunion banquet was held in the largest local Chinese restaurant. According to Li Hongyu, the number of students who attended that day far exceeded the seats originally reserved with the restaurant due to the welcome of the students. After the joint coordination and efforts of the team and the restaurant, it was ensured All international students can sit down and share a reunion dinner. What was impressive at the scene was that in order to give up the seats to the students, neither the UCR-CSSA team nor the staff had a seat, and each one had a boxed lunch. According to Zhang Shiman, Director of the External Relations Department of the Chinese Students and Scholars Association of the University of California, Riverside, and an international student from Harbin, the students participated in the reunion banquet and lottery that day for free.

The menu name of the reunion banquet was full of festive and auspicious meanings, which made the students fully feel the strong atmosphere of the Spring Festival.
