Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell Statement on One Year Anniversary of Atlanta Spa Shootings

Los Angeles, March 16, 2022 – Los Angeles City Council President Pro Tempore Mitch O’Farrell release below statement on one year anniversary of Atlanta Spa shootings:

“Today, we remember the eight lives that were tragically taken one year ago in the Atlanta spa shootings.

The victims included parents, siblings and grandparents – all deeply loved but never forgotten. Many were immigrants and AAPI women who, like many of us, left their homelands in search of opportunity and a better life for their families – only to die in a senseless act of hate and violence at the hands of a shooter with easy access to guns, something with which we are all too familiar.

Together, with their families and other survivors, we remember the victims and keep their names in our hearts: Daoyou Feng; Delaina Ashley Yaun; Hyun Jung Grant; Paul Andre Michels; Soon Chung Park; Suncha Kim; Xiaojie Tan; and Yong Ae Yue.

The 13th District of Los Angeles is home to many AAPI community members. I am proud to represent you, to fight alongside you, and to stand in solidarity with you.

We stand firmly against hatred and anti-Asian violence; we stand with immigrants; and we stand with the victims and survivors of preventable gun violence.

Today, may we remember, reflect and seek to heal. Every day, we will continue to work against the forces of hate and build a better world for all of us.” -Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell
