State Officials Announce Latest COVID-19 Facts

SACRAMENTO – Today, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) released the most recent statistics on COVID-19 and updates on the state’s pandemic response. The most up to date data is available on the state’s COVID-19 data dashboard.

Effective April 4, 2022, CDPH will transition to publicly reporting COVID-19 data two days a week. Specifically, data on COVID-19 cases, test positivity, hospitalizations, ICU numbers and availability, deaths and vaccine coverage will be reported on CDPH’s public dashboards (Tracking COVID-19 in California – Coronavirus COVID-19 Response) only on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Statewide COVID-19 Data

Rates of cases, hospitalizations and deaths are highest among unvaccinated individuals and lowest among boosted individuals. This is true for all age groups. See additional data for unvaccinated and vaccinated cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.

Vaccinations

  • 72,844,876 total vaccines administered.
  • 83.9% of the eligible population (5+) has been vaccinated with at least one dose.
  • 24,607 people a day are receiving COVID-19 vaccination (average daily dose count over 7 days).

 

Cases

  • California has 8,494,005 confirmed cases to date.
  • Today’s average case count is 2,022 (average daily case count over 7 days).
  • Unvaccinated people are 4.2 times more likely to get COVID-19 than boosted individuals (March 7, 2022 – March 13, 2022).

 

Testing

  • The testing positivity rate is 1.6% (average rate over 7 days).


Hospitalizations

  • There are 1,270 hospitalizations statewide.
  • There are 220 ICU patients statewide.
  • Unvaccinated people are 8.0 times more likely to be hospitalized than boosted individuals (March 7, 2022 – March 13, 2022).

 

Deaths

  • There have been 88,207 COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
  • COVID-19 claims the lives of 47 Californians each day (average daily death count over 7 days).
  • Unvaccinated people are 11.0 times more likely to die than boosted individuals (February 28, 2022 – March 6, 2022).
