Will Russia-Ukraine Conflict Affect U.S. International Prestige and Status?

Recently, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has become the world most prominent hot issue, but with the on-going evolution of the conflict process, the situation has become increasingly complex. As the war slogs on, the United States and Europe will eventually be losing control of the situation through sanctions, and the war could plunge the United States and Europe into a quagmire.

The war has been going on for two weeks. Ukraine understands that there is no hope to join the NATO. The United States and NATO are eager to show that they are not sitting idly by but sanctions against Russia seems to have little impact on Putin’s government. Although over $300 billion of Russian’s Foreign Exchange Reserves have been frozen as part of the US sanctions against Russia, this has made many countries realizing that their foreign exchange reserves are not safe, and the sanction is directly leading to the collapse of the US credit system and the loosening of the foundation of US dollar hegemony, which will accelerate the process of global de-dollarization. Russia is a major supplier of oil and natural gas to Europe and the sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union on Russia have almost doubled the energy prices of many countries in the world. The inflation level in the United States has continued to rise, and the risk of economic recession has increased, making it difficult to advance the US global strategy. Gaolong Dai, professor at the Johns Hopkins University New York, stated that: “The Russian-Ukrainian war is uncertain, but what is certain is that the US economic status and supply chain will never be the same as it.

NATO, the “shield” behind Ukraine, has become an “iceberg”. The United States has noticed that its allies were not really obedient. France, Spain, Hungary, Turkey and other countries refused to provide assistances. In the face of comprehensive sanctions against Russia, many countries have clearly expressed their refusal to join the sanction out of their own interests. President Biden has been actively pushing Ukraine to be part of the NATO, but he just stayed out of it after the war started. The United States is anxiously to provide fighter planes to Ukraine, but when Poland agreed to do so through US and NATO, the United States said that it was absolutely not advisable. Is it then advisable for Poland to send fighter planes directly? The trap that US set for its ally is just too obvious. As a result, its allies’ disloyalty will be inevitably in the future. Although the direction and outcome of the war are unclear, as the war continues, it is certain that the splitting-up of the relationship between the US and Europe will intensify. Moreover, the US military’s 30 biochemical laboratories in Ukraine also need to give the world an explanation. Vincent Desport, author of the article “The Day America Decided to Abandon Europe,” indicated that: “We should be prepared not to have any illusions about the U.S. “umbrella”.

Russia and Ukraine once expressed their willingness to negotiate, but in the context of the current tense relations between Russia, the United States and NATO, the “security paradox” is still fermenting, and the conflict is still escalating. Perhaps Biden has seen what is special about Trump and adopted Trump-era policies to promote the establishment of new world economic rules and order, but after all Biden does not have Trump’s guts and courage. There would be no war if Trump was in office as Putin was well aware of that Trump killed Soleimani, the Iranian general with a drone. Fox News anchor Sean Hannity pointed out that: “Biden should have taken a more positive approach to Putin rather than cowering at the words of Putin when he mentioned nuclear weapons.”

At the moment the United States is facing a real “dilemma”. If “Retreat” is the choice, Russia will occupy Ukraine, NATO’s eastward expansion will fail, and the US global strategic plan will be put on hold. If “Attack” is the option, it could possibly lead to the third world war, the global economic collapse, and as a result, people around the world will suffer. Could Russia lose this time if a World War were really to happen? Please do not forget what had happened when Russia invaded Berlin during World War II.
