Supervisor Barger Issues Statement Regarding Importance of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Today, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger released the following statement after the Board of Supervisors approved a motion she co-authored with Supervisor Hilda L. Solis to proclaim May 2022 as Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month:
“I’m a proud co-author of this motion because I believe our County must do its part to recognize and honor our Asian American Pacific Islander residents. It’s important to take time out to recognize the immensely valuable contributions they make to our society in art, education, technology, government, and so much more. Hate crimes and discrimination against Asian American communities have skyrocketed since the start of the pandemic. Celebrating their heritage this month is one more way to stand up for our Asian American Pacific Islander neighbors and community members.”
