Biden showing little strategic ambiguity when it comes to Taiwan

For President Biden, there appears to be little strategic ambiguity in his stance on a Chinese invasion of Taiwan.

If China invades, Biden said Monday, the U.S. will come to Taiwan’s aid militarily. That statement from the president is far from the first time he’s indicated he’s willing to use military force against China to defend Taiwan.

Far from a gaffe, Monday’s remarks at a Tokyo press conference looked intentional, say some educated observers. And it has extra layers of geopolitical meaning after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — something Beijing is watching closely.
