Imagine Trying to Apply for Help When You Don’t Speak English

Imagine trying to apply online for public assistance when you don’t speak, read, or write English. To help break down the language barriers, DPSS has produced an award-winning video series, What Is?, to provide an overview of its assistance programs and services. Each video includes closed captions that may be translated in 10 languages, with audio visual descriptions in English. They also comply with Americans with Disabilities Act regulations and meet international Web Content Accessibility Guideline standards.

Featured on the DPSS website and YouTube channel, these videos help non-English speakers identify which programs and services they need to apply for by providing a quick overview.

Los Angeles is the most diverse community in the nation, and we want to help everyone find the essential resources they need.
