Alzheimer’s Disease Disproportionately Impacts African Americans

Alzheimer’s Disease will be a public health crisis in the future without a better understanding of how to prevent and treat this condition and disproportionately impacts African Americans. It is two times more common among African American individuals compared to others.
Much of how we know about Alzheimer’s comes from studying the donated brains of individuals who wish to help find a cure for the disease. African Americans have traditionally participated in brain donation for Alzheimer’s research at very low rates, despite high rates of the disease in the community.
This survey seeks to understand thoughts and opinions about brain donation among members of the African American community.
