UTLA ENDORSES COUNCILWOMAN LINDSEY HORVATH FOR LA COUNTY SUPERVISOR
Powerhouse Teachers Union Adds to Growing List of
Working Families Supporting Horvath’s Bid for Supervisor
LOS ANGELES, CA – In a major victory for her campaign, Councilwoman and candidate for Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath today announced the endorsement of United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA). Representing over 35,000 public school teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), UTLA is the largest teachers union in California.
“Lindsey Horvath is a champion for public schools and a friend to our teachers,” said UTLA President Cecily Myart-Cruz. “Her record of fighting for working people is unmatched in this race, and we know she will be a partner and ally when she is our next Supervisor. Today we are proud to endorse and stand with Lindsey Horvath for LA County Supervisor.”
Founded in 1970, UTLA advocates for the needs of our classrooms and communities, including pay raises to attract and retain educators, smaller class sizes, mental health support for students, equitable access to technology, and safe school climates through the collective bargaining process.
“Quality public education must be a right, not a privilege. Teachers are the heroes who ensure everyone has access to a brighter future through quality instruction and personal development,” said Councilwoman Lindsey Horvath. “The pandemic highlighted the needs and challenges our teachers face, even in the best of times, and yet they continue to step up for our students. I am honored to have UTLA’s support across the District. As Supervisor, I look forward to working with the teachers of UTLA to make sure LA County provides the support and resources they need to thrive.”
