LAUSD BOARD MEMBER SCOTT SCHMERELSON ENDORSES COUNCILWOMAN LINDSEY HORVATH FOR LA COUNTY SUPERVISOR

LOS ANGELES, CA –  Today, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Member Scott Schmerelson joined a large coalition of state legislators, civil rights leaders, local elected officials, and community activists backing Councilwoman Lindsey Horvath’s bid for LA County Supervisor.

“Lindsey Horvath is clearly the best candidate for students, teachers, and public education,” said LAUSD Member Scott Schmerelson. “With her career record of advancing equitable policies, I know that as Supervisor she will work to make sure that all our kids and their school communities get the support they need to succeed.”

After over 30 years of working as a teacher, counselor, and principal, Scott Schmerelson could not stop advocating for the future of public education. Elected in 2015, Scott now serves as a Board Member of LAUSD, the second-largest school district in the United States. Representing Board District 3, Scott is committed to advancing social, economic, and environmental justice for all, evidenced by prioritizing the needs of Special Education and English Language Learners and fighting to make sure teachers are sufficiently supported as a member of the teachers union United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA).

“LAUSD Member Scott Schmerelson has been on the front lines of our education system and understands what our students and teachers need,” said Councilwoman Horvath. “Access to quality education has put me and so many others on a path to success. I look forward to working with Board Member Schmerelson and LAUSD to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed in Los Angeles County.”
