Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles holds 2023 Spring Festival Reception

San Gabriel, CA (January 17, 2023) – The Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles hosted a 2023 Spring Festival Reception on Monday night, celebrating the upcoming Spring Festival, which was attended by Congresswoman Judy Chu, California controller Fiona Ma, California state senator Robert Hertzberg, assembly member Mike Fong, mayor of San Gabriel Tony Ding, and about 800 guests, including principals of Chinese associations, representatives of overseas Chinese students and senior managers of China enterprises, attended the reception and the atmosphere was grand and ardent.

Acting Chinese Consul General in Los Angeles Shi Yuanqiang made a speech at the reception held at the grand imperial ballroom of Sheraton Los Angeles San Gabriel to representatives from various local groups and overseas Chinese, extended his New Year greetings to friends from different sectors in Southwest of the states.

In his speech, acting Consul General Shi Yuanqiang introduced achievements of the People’s Republic of China. He pointed out, “the year 2022 is a crucial year of transition, which witnessed both challenges and opportunities, crises and hopes. The Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese people of all ethnic groups forged ahead in unity, coordinated epidemic prevention and control with economic and social development, and continued to make achievements on all fronts.”

“China’s economy remains the second largest in the world and enjoys steady development. China’s GDP for the whole year is expected to exceed 120 trillion yuan; a bumper grain harvest has been achieved for consecutive years. “

“In the year ahead, the Chinese Consulate General will make concerted efforts with friends and compatriots from all walks of life to implement the consensus reached between our two presidents, strengthen sub-national cooperation and people-to-people exchange, and win greater popular support for China-US relationship. We will continue to serve our people through diplomatic work and provide better service to the Chinese communities, Chinese students and Chinese enterprise employees in our consular district.” said Shi.

Well-known Chinese film and television director Feng Xiaoning and his wife, the first Chinese youth football player to play for the Power Five league team Jackson He, President of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of Los Angeles Ernest K. Lee, and overseas Chinese leaders from traditional overseas Chinese associations; President of Chinese American Federation Simon Shao, Chairman of the Federation, Michael Xiong,  Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Joey Yu, Chairman of the Foundation Sher Li, and other leaders from the local Chinese associations, Peter Man, Chairman of the SW-CSSA, Sky Qian, president of SWCSSA and Chinese students from local universities attended the reception.

During the reception, the atmosphere of the reception was grand and festive, with wonderful performances such as dancing, martial arts, folk music, and chorus; young staff members from the Consulate General also performed a chorus for the guests.

The guests said that the New Year reception made them feel the long-lost Chinese New Year flavor and the warmth of going home. When the reception ended with the song “Unforgettable Tonight”, many guests were still full of joy and peace linger in the festive atmosphere.

The reception continued for nearly there hours, with marvelous decorations and lighting, beautiful flowers, red Lanterns and smiles, lovely songs and music. With festive music, colorful red displays and new costumes, walking into the receiption it’s hard to miss the Spring Festival atmosphere.
