Asian American high school students organized charity bazaars to donate to victims of trafficking and domestic violence
Irvine, Ca (April 17, 2023) – The Business Fair hosted by Girls Impact for Tomorrow was held at Hanger 24 in Irvine on April 15th. About 28 student organizations and small businesses participated in this charity event. A total of $3807 was raised and donated to Radiant Futures. The purpose of holding this public welfare sale was to call on all student organizations and small businesses to help raise people’s awareness of human trafficking and domestic abuse, so that the whole society can help this group with actions.
This event received a positive response and support from local citizens, school students and parents. On the one hand, they raised goods for the charity sale, and on the other hand, some students and local citizens actively bought the goods for the charity sale, showing their love. Most of the handicrafts exhibited at Girls Impact for Tomorrow are handmade by students; there are also cross-stitch and hand-woven paintings donated from Yunnan, China, which were loved by visitors and sold out’.
According to statistics, about 15,000 people are trafficked in the United States every year and forced to engage in sex work and manual labor; domestic violence is as many as 5.3 million, and women are the most common victims. Effective January 25, 2023, WTLC, now Radiant Futures, has a mission to build a safer community by providing all survivors with crisis support, services, and education to prevent domestic violence and human trafficking.
Amy Qin, the leader of Girls Impact for Tomorrow, is a Grade 11 student at Sage Hill. In this event, she successfully contacted 28 merchants and united them to donate their income together, combining charity and finance. She and her classmates are enthusiastic about public welfare, actively participate in various activities in the community, and help disadvantaged and low-income groups through financial fundraising. For this, she was honored by the City of Irvine and the Asian American Youth Center.
