Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Statement on Supreme Court Ruling Regarding Mifepristone, the Drug Used in Medication Abortions

Access to abortion is a public health issue and continues to be a priority for Los Angeles County.

Today, the Supreme Court ruled to keep mifepristone, the drug used in medication abortions, on the market with no restrictions. This is a win for all. Access to abortion is fundamental to the health of individuals, families, and communities.

Los Angeles County created the Abortion Safe Haven Project, consisting of a network of county agencies; nonprofit, academic, and business partners; reproductive health, rights, and justice advocates; and health care providers committed to ensuring safe access to reproductive care for everyone in LA County and those coming to LA County, including the under-resourced and marginalized people with the capacity for pregnancy.

We remain committed to ensuring people have the access they deserve and need to all health services, to live rich and full and healthy lives.
