California Community Colleges Help Students Save Time and Money to Reach Their Higher Education Goals

Like many Asian students, growing up, I was expected to work hard, get good grades, and graduate from college so that I could find a good job. It sounds simple, but as we all know, life is not that straightforward or easy.

 

As the California Community Colleges’ Vice Chancellor for Educational Services and Support, I understand the many challenges students face in their pursuit of obtaining a higher education degree or certificate, which is why I strongly believe in providing academic programs and support services to help students succeed.

 

As we celebrate California Community Colleges Month this April, I want to highlight the high quality and affordable opportunities that are immediately available at our colleges to help students enroll and stay on track to reach their educational goals.

 

Dual enrollment is one of those important opportunities, offering high school students and students attending a noncredit or adult education diploma or equivalency program the chance to get a head start on their college education. With dual enrollment, students can take high-quality college courses taught by instructors who are experts in their fields. These courses count toward a high school diploma (or adult equivalency) and a future college degree. In short, one dual enrollment class counts towards two different academic goals.
