In her campaign announcement video, Reese said:
“California is filled with the most amazing people. But the California dream is dying – the dream that so many people have for a more secure life. Millions of families are working hard but barely getting by. It is time to work together to build a better future together, so we can thrive together.
“I’m Lexi Reese and I’m running for the United States Senate to fix California’s economy. To build a California where all people, especially women and people of color, get equal pay for equal work. And to enshrine the freedom to choose when and whether to have kids, freedom from senseless gun violence that just has to stop, and the freedom to be who we are and love who we love. Securing these freedoms, making work work so families have good jobs that they can rely on – that is worth stepping up for.
“And I get it. I get how hard it can be. My dad worked at Sears – proudly – for 21 years, and then he lost his job unexpectedly. My mom, in her 30’s and without a college degree, went to work to provide for our family to give us educational opportunities to get ahead. My parents divorced. My siblings struggled with addiction. My sister – she found recovery. My brother, Peter – he lost his life trying.
“So yeah, I understand what financial uncertainty can do to a family. I know a paycheck is about more than money. It’s about peace of mind and dignity. That’s why I’ve spent my entire career trying to help people get ahead. In the non-profit sector, I helped businesses access the funding they needed to get started. During the pandemic, I fought for women, Black, Asian and Hispanic-owned businesses to get the aid they needed and deserved to survive.
“In the Senate, I will continue to work. But we’re going to have to work together. Because that’s what the California dream is supposed to be about.
“I am Lexi Reese, and I am dreaming for a better future. For families, for women, for all of us.”
