Generous Gift Funds My Brother’s Keeper Peer Advocate Position at Carson Library

LA COUNTY, CA – LA County Library is excited to announce that Seattle Seahawks player Uchenna Nwosu is partnering with the Library and LA County Library Foundation to fund a My Brother’s Keeper Peer Advocate position at Carson Library for the next three years.

Nwosu, who grew up in Carson, said his gift celebrates his hometown library and community. “I have great memories of visiting Carson Library when I was younger. Carson Library helped me and so many other young people learn and grow, and now it’s time for me to pay it forward.”

Established in 2018 in response to former President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Challenge, LA County Library’s award-winning MBK Peer Advocate program brings young people of color into libraries as advisors and liaisons. Peer Advocates serve their communities by connecting with young people in their local library, supporting library programs and services, and enhancing their own skills through training, program development, and outreach.

With Nwosu’s support, Carson Library will recruit its own MBK Peer Advocate. Nwosu encourages applicants: “This is a great opportunity for a young person of color to support Library projects, create programs that impact youth and the greater community, and gain real-world skills that can be applied to school and work.”

We are thrilled to offer this exciting opportunity to the customers of Carson Library.”

Once hired, this MBK Peer Advocate will work out of Carson Library, which is anticipated to reopen to the public in late fall. Interested individuals with a high school diploma or GED who want to make an impact in the Carson community can learn more about the MBK Peer Advocate position and complete an interest form at LACountyLibrary.org/MBK.
