LAPost/Hollywood, CA (November 26, 2023) – Dedicated to promoting kindness, giving and helping others, the Hollywood Christmas Parade is one of the nation’s iconic New Year’s Day celebrations. The 91st Christmas Parade kicked off on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6 pm on November 26. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Chinese Consul General in Los Angeles Ambassador Guo Shaochun, Deputy Consul General Shi Yuanqiang and Li Chunlin were invited to attend the parade. Paris D. Davis, a retired colonel who was awarded the Medal of Honor earlier this year for his service in the Vietnam War, served as the Grand Marshal of this year’s Hollywood Christmas Parade.

The 84-year-old Davis, who was selected as this year’s parade grand ceremonial officer, was one of the first black officers to serve in the Army’s elite Green Berets. He was commended for his bravery in rescuing two seriously injured soldiers during Vietnam War.

Tens of thousands of spectators lined the 3.2-mile U-shaped route to watch the parade of approximately 5,000 participants. The parade included nearly 100 performing arts stars and VIPs, 14 parade performance teams, 10 bands, 3 floats, nearly 40 cars from the movie and 8 novelty vehicles, 6 four-story-high character balloons, and It ends with the appearance of Santa Claus himself and his reindeer. The mayor of Los Angeles participated in the entire parade in a limousine car.

The Roundtable of Southern California Chinese American Organizations, which has participated for five consecutive years, sent a huge parade of 250 people this year, displaying Chinese style elements in six square arrays including dragon dance, lion dance, folk music, Chinese martial arts, cheongsam, and waist drum. Accompanied by the loud sound of gongs and drums, the majestic appearance of dragon dance and lion dance teams successively became one of the most eye-catching parts of the parade. The folk music phalanx performed “Jingle Bells” performed by Chinese national instruments to entertain the audience. It brought a refreshing sense of intimacy, and the phalanx performances of martial arts, cheongsam, and waist drum also aroused screams and cheers from the audience.

Appearing in the Rolls Royce and Ferrari limousine of Chinese philanthropist Evan Lam were Olivia Li in the shape of Mulan, actor Vivian Dawson and Miss Chinatown Nicole Zhang.

In an exclusive interview after watching the six Chinese phalanxes, Consul General Guo Shaochun said, “I am very happy and excited to see several phalanxes of our Chinese and overseas Chinese passing by. What is particularly impressive is the participation of many young generations . It shows the support and participation of overseas Chinese in local multiculturalism. It should be said that our overseas Chinese have become a very important and active part of American society.”

This year’s live television broadcast of the Hollywood Christmas Parade was co-hosted by “police professional” movie star Erik Estrada, TV host Laura McKenzie, TV series “Superman” star Dean Cain and TV host Montel Williams. In addition to floats and limousines, there were also Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and singer Paula Abdul, country music singer Dwight Yoakum, pop band Aly & AJ, actor Brandon Routh who played Superman in the 2006 movie “Superman Returns”, Actors Vivian Dawson, actress Ming-Na Wen and other celebrities and dignitaries participated in this year’s parade.
