LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes Hosted a Dedication Ceremony to Rename LA Plaza Cocina in Tribute to the Late Gloria Molina

This Dedication Ceremony was held one day before what would have been Gloria Molina’s 76th Birthday, renaming the cultural space to LA Cocina de Gloria Molina

  

LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes hosted a dedication ceremony of LA Plaza Cocina in honor of Gloria Molina on May 30th, joined by her family and friends. The new name is now LA Cocina de Gloria Molina.

The ceremony was a private event with Gloria’s family and friends held one day before what would have been Gloria’s 76th birthday. Speakers included Leticia Rhi Buckley, CEO, LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes; Valentina Martinez, daughter of Gloria Molina;            Hilda L. Solis, Los Angeles County Supervisor; Andy Carrasco, Chair, LA Plaza Board of Supervisors and Antonia Hernández.

LA Cocina de Gloria Molina, a testament to Gloria Molina’s legacy, is a teaching kitchen and flexible event space that spotlights the history, culture, and influence of Mexican and Mexican American cuisine. Programming at LA Cocina de Gloria Molina includes culturally rooted cooking classes, talks and tastings, and cooking demonstrations. The recently launched Culinary Youth Training Program provides free, bilingual workforce development and skill-building opportunities to young people ages 16-24.

LA Cocina de Gloria Molina’s 2,500-square-foot space features essential kitchen equipment, infrastructure, and audio-visual capabilities, making it an excellent location for intimate programs and events, including meetings, classes, social gatherings, and team-building activities. It is located at 555 N Spring St, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Gloria Molina, who passed away on May 14, 2023, dedicated her life to serving her community and was a role model for women seeking public office and community activism.

She was the first woman to become a Los Angeles County Supervisor and the first Latina to serve in the Los Angeles City Council and the California State Legislature. She also helped launch LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, an anchor cultural institution in Los Angeles County centering the Latino experience and providing a space to uplift, share, and preserve the stories of Mexicans, Mexican Americans, and Latinx people in Southern California.
