LA COUNTY PROVIDES $3 MILLION IN ARP FUNDS TO SUPPORT WEST HOLLYWOOD RECOVERY CENTER

Los Angeles, CA, August 6, 2024 — Through Board action today, Los Angeles County will provide $3 million in American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds to support the West Hollywood Recovery Center (WHRC), West Hollywood’s leading recovery services nonprofit. The funds will support the renovation of WHRC’s home—the Log Cabin, a historic cabin-style building that, once renovations are complete, will serve as the single hub for WHRC’s 4,500 group recovery meetings each year.

“The West Hollywood Recovery Center does incredible work offering life-changing services to our community members on their recovery journey,” said Board Chair Lindsey P. Horvath. “This $3 million investment will support the comprehensive refurbishment of the Log Cabin to create a recovery campus that is slated to be complete by 2026. Recovery services are a vital community service and for 23 years, WHRC has served as a gold standard of care and support.”

The funds will be provided to the City of West Hollywood, which owns the property. In purchasing the site in 2022, the City entered into a 99-year lease with WHRC for continued long-term use to support the recovery community. Recovery services address addiction in our communities and prevent homelessness.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Substance Abuse Prevention and Control services will be co-located at the new Log Cabin campus.

“We are profoundly grateful to LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath and the County of Los Angeles for their incredible support and generous contribution of $3 million towards the Log Cabin Recovery Campus Project,” said Shawn Gillespie, President of the WHRC Board of Directors. “This significant investment not only underscores the importance of our mission but also brings us one step closer to ensuring that the Log Cabin continues to be a vital sanctuary for those battling addiction and mental health challenges. The support from LA County is a testament to the power of community and collaboration in fostering recovery and resilience. Together, we are building a brighter future for countless individuals and reinforcing our commitment to providing a safe, supportive environment for all who seek help.”

“Countless thousands of people have been helped by life-changing addiction recovery meetings at the historic Log Cabin building. We are thrilled that with the Log Cabin Renovation Plan, we can look forward to many more years ahead in a vastly improved space,” said City of West Hollywood Mayor John M. Erickson. “The Log Cabin building houses the West Hollywood Recovery Center, which hosts dozens of separate meetings each week and over 4,500 meetings a year. I’m profoundly grateful to LA County 3rd District Supervisor Lindsey Horvath for her leadership in moving to allocate a contribution of up to $3 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, and to the County of Los Angeles and its Board of Supervisors for its support. Funding will ensure the continued long-term use of the Log Cabin space for people in recovery, which is essential for compassionately addressing addiction in our communities.”
