AUGUST IS ESSENTIAL SERVICES MONTH
Throughout the month of August, the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) will observe Essential Services Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness of local services that Los Angeles County residents can access in times of hardship.
As one of 58 county-level social services agencies in California, DPSS administers programs that aid with food, healthcare, cash assistance, and employment services to eligible applicants. The department also provides in-home care for elderly, blind, or disabled county residents.
During this month, DPSS will leverage its communication platforms to highlight its programs and other resources through its weekly Social Services Resources newsletter, Essential DPSS, social media posts, and links to informative videos on how to apply for vital services. The department will also promote local job fairs and food distribution events, in addition to other community resources that residents may find of interest.
Please visit the DPSS website, featuring the award-winning “What Is?” video series, to learn more about our programs. Follow the department on its official social media pages on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), to stay informed on future updates.
DPSS encourages all County of L.A. residents to help share this information with those who need it most. Download the media toolkit at DPSS Media Toolkits (lacounty.gov).
