Los Angeles, CA October 1st, 2024  – The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the Royal Vista Residential Project today, which will transform a portion of a privately-owned former golf course into a 360-unit housing community and publicly accessible green space. As a longtime champion of affordable housing in Los Angeles County, Supervisor Solis has worked to evolve this project to include and address community input and concerns and meet the needs of affordable housing and public green spaces in unincorporated Rowland Heights.

“Since inheriting this project through the redistricting process in 2021, my office has actively engaged with the developer to emphasize the importance of involving local residents in the planning process,” said Supervisor Solis. “We have a responsibility to bring additional opportunities to our residents to access affordable housing units, critically important jobs, and publicly accessible green spaces, especially in East San Gabriel Valley communities like unincorporated Rowland Heights. It’s crucial that the voices of our community are heard, and I am committed to ensuring that this project meets the needs of our residents while addressing the growing housing crisis. Together, we can create a solution that fosters inclusivity and provides much-needed housing options for our families.“

The Royal Vista Residential Project, located at the 20100 block of Colima Road and 19816 Walnut Drive, will provide 360 homeownership units including 82 affordable units and a diversity of housing types (townhomes, single-family units, duplexes, and triplexes) on a portion of the former golf course, in addition to 28 acres of open, publicly accessible green space and a 2 mile publicly accessible trail.

The Board Letter recommends certification of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Project that has been completed in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) amongst the recommendations. In addition to the public elements already incorporated as part of the Project, Supervisor Solis expressed additional expectations, including that the applicant works with the Department of Economic Opportunity to comply and achieve general consistency with a Targeted Worker Hire policy for the creation of construction jobs and that this new housing community be marketed to the surrounding local residents in compliance with Fair Housing Law. With these efforts and benefits, the Project will work to address market rate and affordable housing in a balanced manner.
